That lonely feeling

When you feel alone among people

It can be lonely to be the only one with a disease like Crohn’s Disease. Even the closest family have a hard time to understand why you are okey one day but not the next. Sometimes it would be nice to have someone to talk to, who are in the same situation.

There was one person when finding out about the diagnose in 1998. We never met in person, but we wrote letters to each other. It was a relief to talk to someone who understood all the feelings, the pain and all new things with doctors and medication that came up. This person stopped to write one day, and we never heard from each other again. Many years have passed sense then and what ever happened will always be unknown to me.

First contact in years

When this blog started there was one person who reached out. That was unexpected and overwhelming. For years, having no contact with others in the same situation maybe got a bit too much. There where so many things to say, all the experience that was bottled up just poured out and probably scared this person away. Hopefully the conversation gave some relief and hope for the future. Life will not end when getting a diagnose but it will change and there are much to learn. You can still live a good and happy life.

There is a lot to learn about this experience, more listening and less talking for example. Hopefully connecting with each other can help us get through the hard times that follows with our disease but also enjoying the good times that will come along in life.

Stories out there

You have your own story

You all have your own stories, and they are a part of you. They have gotten you to where you are today and it’s your choice where you want to go from here. Hopefully you can find someone who can listen and support you on your journey, some of you may already have that someone who inspire, guide, and support you and the choices you make.

Everyone has the possibility to help others by listening and being a guiding star in someone else’s life. The experiences we all have is unique, others can have similar stories, but they are not the same. Your story is your own and with you sharing it, someone might feel relief and comfort in what you say and do. Sometimes you might not even know you helped that one person, just by being you.
